Smoke alarm deadline: under Queensland law, every home must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in each bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms and on every storey by 1 January 2027. Rentals have needed them since 2022. 240V smoke alarms must be installed by a licensed electrician (Queensland Fire Department).
The alarms we fit: we install Red Smoke Alarms, an Australian brand of photoelectric alarms with sealed 10-year lithium batteries and a 10-year warranty. They interconnect hard-wired or wirelessly and are certified to AS 3786. In our experience they are far more reliable than the budget alarms often used by bulk compliance companies, with fewer nuisance alarms and no battery changes for the life of the alarm.
Appliance repairs: when an oven, cooktop, rangehood, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer or hot water system stops working, we assess it first and make a call on whether a repair is worthwhile. If parts are available and the numbers stack up, we order them in and fit them. If it's beyond repair, or the repair would cost close to a new unit, you get clear options and a quote for replacement.

What smoke alarms do you install?
We use Red Smoke Alarms: photoelectric, interconnected alarms with a sealed 10-year lithium battery and a 10-year warranty, certified to AS 3786. They are reliable, have fewer nuisance alarms than cheaper units, and there are no batteries to change for tenants or property managers.
What are the Queensland smoke alarm rules for rentals?
Rental properties must already have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms (AS 3786-2014) in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms, and on each storey. The landlord is responsible for installing compliant alarms. From 1 January 2027 the same rules apply to all Queensland homes.
Can you test smoke alarms before a new tenancy?
Yes. Landlords must test smoke alarms within 30 days before a tenancy starts. We can test, clean and replace alarms as needed and confirm they are compliant.
Do you work with property managers?
