Split system air conditioning installation in Brisbane

Supply, install and wiring of split system air conditioners by one licensed tradesman. Earthwire holds both an electrical contractor licence and an ARC refrigerant handling licence, so you don't need to coordinate two trades.

QLD Lic. 90605 · Fully insured · 20 years experience · Highly rated on Google

Many air con installs need two trades: one to fit the unit and handle the refrigerant, and an electrician to wire it in. Because Earthwire holds ARC Refrigerant Handling Licence L214808 as well as QLD Electrical Contractor Licence 90605, Earthwire handles the whole job.

That means one quote, one booking and one person accountable for the result, from sizing advice and switchboard checks through to a neat outdoor unit install and a final test.

Why regular servicing is worth it

In Brisbane's heat and humidity, a split system can run for months on end. Dust, moisture and mould build up inside the indoor unit, and most people don't notice until it starts to smell or stops cooling properly.

Cleaner, healthier air

All the air in the room passes through the filter and over the indoor coil. When they're dirty and damp, mould and bacteria can grow there and get blown back into the room. Mould spores can irritate the nose, eyes and skin and aggravate asthma (YourHome), and poorly maintained filters can lead to mould growth (Queensland Government). A proper clean keeps that out of the air you breathe, which matters most in bedrooms and for anyone with allergies or asthma.

Better cooling, lower running costs

A clogged filter restricts airflow, so the unit works harder and takes longer to cool the room. Cleaning or replacing dirty filters can cut an air conditioner's energy use by 5 to 15 percent (US Department of Energy). Clean coils and a clear drain also help it run quieter, avoid water leaks and last longer.

Fewer breakdowns

A service is a chance to spot worn parts, loose connections, blocked drains or a struggling outdoor unit before they fail on the hottest day of the year. With both electrical and refrigerant licences, we can check the whole system, not just the filters.

What a service includes

In short: we strip it down, deep clean it, sanitise it and test it. Step by step:

  • Pre-service check: unit run and tested, with airflow and temperatures noted
  • Indoor unit opened up: front cover, louvres and filters removed
  • Filters and covers washed and sanitised with an antibacterial cleaner
  • Catchment bag fitted, then the evaporator coil, fan barrel and air well washed through with a non-corrosive coil cleaner
  • Anti-microbial, mould-inhibiting treatment applied to the coil and fan
  • Drain pan and condensate line flushed and treated to prevent slime build-up and leaks
  • Outdoor condenser coil cleaned with coil cleaner and rinsed, with leaves and debris cleared
  • Electrical terminals, connections and isolator checked
  • Refrigerant pressures checked
  • Final performance test on cooling and heating, including supply air temperature

How often

For most homes, once a year is a good rule, ideally in spring before the summer rush (energy.gov.au). Rentals and units that run most of the day may need it more often. Between services, rinsing the filters every few weeks during heavy use keeps things running well.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can't see your question? Call us on 0420 496 210.

How often should my air conditioner be serviced?

For most homes, once a year, ideally in spring before summer. Units that run most of the day, or in rentals, may need servicing more often. A service cleans the filters, coil, fan and drain, which helps air quality, cooling performance and running costs.

Do I need a separate installer and electrician?

Not with Earthwire. Handling refrigerant requires an ARC licence, and wiring requires an electrical licence. Earthwire holds both, so one licensed tradesman does the whole install.

What size air conditioner do I need?

It depends on the room size, ceiling height, insulation, windows and which way the room faces. We can give an initial recommendation from a few photos and room measurements, then confirm on site.

Will my switchboard need an upgrade?

Many split systems are best on their own dedicated circuit, and larger units need one. We check your switchboard as part of the quote and tell you up front if any work is needed.

Do you service existing air conditioners?

Yes, including servicing for rental properties as part of property maintenance.
